Cal Applebee - Executive Director
An original founding board member, Cal Applebee is a native Oregonian who moved to Florence in 2005 from Central Oregon. Cal spent part of his youth in Idaho and after attending college there, he moved to California where he began his career in the title insurance industry for 33 years. Cal is also a past president of the Oregon Land Title Association and a recent retiree of the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served as Executive Director, and continues to support and serve the Board of Directors today.
Before moving to Florence, Cal was heavily involved in the Central Oregon community by participating in organizations such as the Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce and Home Builders Association. In addition, Cal is the founding president of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) – Central Oregon Group. He has continued to be active in the community since moving to Florence through the Florence chapter of Home Builders Association of Lane County and providing service on a work group for the community economic development. Other accomplishments include being the founding president of the Oregon Central Coast Military Vehicle Group, an MVPA affiliate chapter, and the founding president of Veterans Parade Committee of Florence.
Although not a veteran, Cal is passionate about his appreciation for the service and sacrifice that all veterans have made in our society. Due to the large number of veterans in the Florence area, Cal felt that starting a military heritage museum was, “just the right thing to do.”
