Museum in Motion

Okay...okay - so I borrowed that title from the City of Florence's 'A City in Motion'... Hope you all are enjoying this spring-like weather - if the rain ever stops! A few things to update you on as we approach a busy summer season: This Friday, May 12th is the Second Annual Pinewood Derby at the Beachcomber Pub with the entire benefits going to the Oregon Coast Military Museum. This event is sponsored by the Beachcomber and Lagunitas Brewing Company and is a blast from the past. For just $20, you can purchase a pinewood derby kit at the Beachcomber, and build your own race car, then try your luck Friday night with races that start at 7:30 p.m. at the Beachcomber! On June 17th, the OCMM is sponsoring an event called "Jeep Junction" underwritten by Johnston Motor Co. and Banner Bank. This jeep-only show & shine will be held at Johnston Motor Co. on Hwy 101 here in Florence and is designed to celebrate the birth of the jeep in WWII, and commemorate the iconic vehicle it has become today. Military jeeps, CJ's and Wrangler's only please. First 25 registrants receive a goodies bag! It starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 pm. It's a great way to treat Dad to an event on Father's Day weekend so please come and join us! July 1st is the annual Wings & Wheels Fly-in & Car Show and the Florence Municipal Airport, and the Museum will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary that day as well. A lot of fun things in the works such as raffles for gift cards, baskets, scenic tours etc. Watch for more details, and mark your calendar to join us that day! Speaking of motion, the WWII jeep on display at the Museum will be winding it's way back home to Albany Oregon following the Jeep Junction event in June. In it's place we will be working on a display for the United States Coast Guard.
